Divorce, Separation & Bereavement

Divorce and separation. This happens more often than we want to admit, but is it all to do with menopause? We don’t know for sure, but we know that during the pandemic more marriages have ended, indeed my own marriage did. For many women, though painful at first, it can bring them new peace, joy, and light. especially if they have been suffering for many years with debilitating symptoms without understanding from their partners.

Marriages rarely need to come to an end if there is still trust and love, this can be reignited by talking, counseling, and opening up discussions. For couples who have been together for many years, marriage can become stale. But what we often hear from men, is them saying ‘she is not the woman I married. Well, of course not, and perhaps you are not the man she married, people change as they grow.

What they are really trying to say is that they don’t understand you, and do not know why you have changed. Men are fixers by nature, and if they can’t fix something they feel pretty useless. That is why we must not shut them out of the menopause conversation.

The Group Hug Partnership

Due to the amount of divorce, separation, and menopause that we see – we are thrilled to have partnered recently with divorce, separation, and bereavement support company The Group Hug. This organization provides levels of support free. From blogs about who gets the dog – to coping with the split, and how to support the children.

It is packed full of useful information and guidance. We can feel lost during this period of transition let alone going through a separation and then divorce. You may need extra support, especially emotionally. But you may also need assistance from specialist divorce lawyers, or financial experts. Perhaps even updating wills and insurances etc. Changing your name can be a daunting process.

Bereavement

This comes to us all at some point or another, and losing parents or children will be the hardest for sure, but we also feel bereaved after the end of a relationship. We may not only lose a partner, but an entire family as happened in my case with stepchildren. It is vitally important that you look after your mental wellbeing, and for many that is easier said, than done. The Group Hug will guide and support you, just watch the video and you will understand how they can help in the first instance, and point you in the right direction to enable you to move forward.

Advice & Support

You should always seek advice and support when you most need it. Don’t try to be a superwoman, often we all need to ask for help, it is not a weakness and it could set you up for a very bright future. If your marriage is at the point of collapse, my advice is don’t let it eat into the rest of your life. Your happiness is crucially important, and when you are happy, those around you are too.

My Own Experience

Talking from my own recent experience, I have found so much peace and joy, and even new love since the end of my marriage. It has made me so much stronger, and I feel free for the first time in my life to make decisions that are good for me! It was tough at the beginning and it tore the two families apart. but in time, things repair. Life is what you decide to make it, so take a leap of faith. When you know something is not right, don’t waste time going through the motions. Life is certainly too short, I think we will all agree with that.
