Want to lose belly fat and shape your waist? We all dream of flatter tummies don’t we? That fun pair of jeans is calling you, you know the ones, they are in the back of your cupboard!

Hormonal changes during menopause, combined with decreasing metabolism as we age, can contribute to weight gain, especially on our tummy. Weight distribution changes during menopause especially targeting the tummy area, which apart from being uncomfortable can affect how we feel about ourselves and our confidence. But more seriously it’s unhealthy, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. So how can we re-find our waist, shed the excess inches, and protect our health?

Losing Weight During & After Menopause

This may feel impossible. Hormone changes, stress, lack of sleep, and the aging process all work against us. The good news is, there are simple steps we can take to make weight loss easier during menopause and sustain the results. Here are my to-tips:

Maintain a food diary, noting everything you eat and drink, paying attention to what causes bloating.

Maintain your daily calories and increase your daily activity.

Learn to create and maintain core engagement during daily activities. The way to get started is to learn how to perform a precise pelvic tilt. Lying on your back, press your back firmly to the floor and feel your core brace. Remember to breathe. Every day look to increase the length of time you can hold core contraction.

As we now work closely with Menopause Experts Group, we encourage you to try out the Curves At-Home Workouts, and the Curves In-Club Circuit is designed to condition your core.

Simple Steps

The steps may be simple, but it does involve change, and changing our routine isn’t easy. Maybe you have heard of the expression, “make the harder choice?” It is often used in connection with getting active, eating healthily, and increasing fitness levels. It is appropriate because often we forget that we actually have a choice. We choose our lifestyle, moment by moment, day by day, we make the choices. The first step to change is acknowledging that we have a choice, and then taking responsibility for what we choose. Is it easy? No! But is it worth it? Always!

Another common concern for countless menopausal women is the extra weight that appears on the upper arms. Would you love to tone up your upper arms and feel confident in your sleeveless outfits? I’ll cover this in one of the next blogs.

I hope you have enjoyed reading this, there will be so much more from me again soon.
